This is mostly an update to let folks know where we are at and to see if there is strong feelings on what alternative they like or parts they like/dislike and what more or less they would like to see in an alternative. † It's be past the comment period we put in the letter, †but folks can still comment. † We haven't set a date yet to take the comments to the Forest Supervisor so we can finalize the alternatives and finish up our analysis of effects. †I think it will probably be in the next week or so. † So the sooner the better, especially if there are strong feelings one way or another.

We've had some questions on the maps. †Level II roads will still be open for folks to ride on. †We just weren't encouraging it as part of the trail system. †That's why we split the maps up... The trail maps are what the designated trail system would look like. †The road changes would be what shows up on the Forest Transportation map. † So just because a road route that folks are used to riding doesn't show up on the trail map doesn't necessarily mean its no longer there. †It may be all level II roads and if its on the road map and hasn't had any portion of the level II road closed it will be on the transportation map. † Hope I didn't make that more confusing. † Any questions folks can give me a call.

Folks will also get another opportunity to comment when the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) is completed late this fall. † We also included in the mailing an opportunity for folks to "reserve" a copy of the DEIS. † †It will also be available on line. † The document will be large. †It wouldn't surprise me if we broke 200 pages on the analysis. † †So folks may want to get the CD or just the summary hardcopy and look at the document online.... or get together as a group for one hard copy document. † Folks can write in, email to comments-pacificnorthwest-deschutes-crescent@fs.fed.us †with comments or requests for the DEIS.
